Dave Transcribes Another Brick in the Wall for Guitar Techniques Magazine!

Dave has long been a favourite columnist of Guitar Techniques' Readers, but his heavy road schedule the past two years have allowed him to contribute just sporadically. The magazine decided to take advantage of his time on the road with the Roger Waters Band and the issue which hit the newsstands on 4th of December features his transcription of Another Brick in the Wall.

EDITOR NEVILLE MARTEN WROTE IN HIS BLOG:

Roger Waters' guitarist tabs Another Brick In The Wall for Guitar Techniques!

Dave Kilminster is a phenomenal guitarist. He's been writing for Guitar
Techniques since it began back in 1994 but he's also been a member of Pink
Floyd bassist Roger Waters' touring band for the past two years.

During that time he's played Another Brick In The Wall (and David Gilmour's
fabulous solos) dozens of times to massive audiences around the world. Dave has done a brilliantly accurate job of tabbing the track, with every nuance correctly notated.

If you want to learn Another Brick from probably the best tab ever, then
there's no better place to go than this month's Guitar Techniques Don't miss it; it's on sale now!

Happy Holidays from Everyone at DaveKilminster.com!!!

Whatever you celebrate, wherever you are, we wish you all a peaceful and joyful holiday season. If you enjoy giving the gift of music, we can help you with your last minute shopping either at www.davekilminster.com or through iTunes. We hope you and your loved ones have a lovely holiday and a wonderful new year. We look forward to many exciting things to come.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM DAVE!

REGARDING THE POSTPONEMENT OF MUMBAI
LIVE EARTH CONCERT, ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED
FOR DECEMBER 7TH!

I was greatly saddened to learn of the recent atrocities committed in Mumbai last week...

And as a result of those terrorists activities, the organisers have decided to cancel the projected 'Live Earth' concert scheduled for next weekend...

It's understandable, considering the chaos the present situation has created... and also the potential danger to music fans, festival workers and the artists themselves... but I really hate the fact that such mindless violence has not only caused such pain, suffering and heartache to thousands of people... but also disrupted an event for such a worthy cause.

I very much hope that the concert will be rescheduled for sometime in the near future... after all, this senseless fighting over religion/land/whatever won't really be possible when we're all extinct!!!

- Dave Kilminster, 1 December 2008

24 November 2008

Dave is honoured to be joining Roger Waters once again in supporting Live Earth on December 7th in Mumbai India!

The Giants Stadium concert (where Roger and Dave played to more than two billion people, almost a third the world's population!) was one of many around the world; this is a special, one country event, which may be seen on satellite VIA the STAR Network or via internet videostream on MSN.com. We hope you will join us and the world in viewing and supporting Live Earth. For more information:

So many people want to know exactly what gear Dave uses to get his wonderful tone and marvelous sound. We are happy to be able to share his 2008 set up with you, along with his commentary.

For 2008, Dave created an entirely new set up featuring custom electric guitars made by Suhr, new Martin acoustic guitars, and a brand new amp set-up courtesy of Cornford Amps... along with the obligatory D'addario strings and Dunlop picks.

You can see it all and read Dave's personal commentary by going to www.davekilminster.com and clicking on gear. You'll find Dave's 2006/2007 gear there, too and very shortly we will have his gear from
prior years on the site.

Good news and Bad News...

The good news:
Two more gigs are coming up, one in London and one (still in negotiation) somewhere else, which will give even more of you the opportunity to see Dave and Murray if you haven't been able to make it to Peterborough.

The bad news:
The Riva series has been wonderful fun for both players and for the audience. But it was meant to be an outdoor, summer series which takes advantage of the lovely river environment of the Cafe. Poor weather has forced us to cancel the remaining dates. We're so sorry if you were planning to come to one of the remaining Riva shows. We were looking forward to seeing you.

But, the good news is, that you still will have some really good chances to see the duo indoors very shortly. Watch this space.

Guitar Break

Our friends at Guitar Break remind us that Dave will take a break from his work with Murray and his recording with Wetton-Downes iCon to be the featured guest instructor at Guitar Break. He is one of their most popular tutors and the intimate environment can't be beat. We get constant requests for personal lessons, which Dave's schedule cannot accommodate. This is your chance to experience his teaching first hand.

We are delighted to present Dave Kilminster for yet another Blues & Prog Rock masterclass whilst in between his world tour with Roger Waters. Almost a year on from his last Guitar Break you can only expect another jaw-dropping weekend.

From the Guitar Break Newsletter:

Dave Kilminster Weekend - Blues/Prog Rock 2/3
Highgate House, Northampton

Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 November 2008, 10-5pm

Course costs:
£375, to include 2 full days tuition, lunch, all day refreshments and Saturday evening meal. Deposits of £50 (non-refundable) and full payments are currently being taken to secure places. See GuitarBreak.com for details or call 0845 458 7372.

If Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, ELP, Rush and Dream Theatre styled rock is your thing with a healthy dose of blues added Guitar Break has a weekend course just for you! Alongside player/tutors Neville Marten and Jason Sidwell, Dave Kilminster will be the guest tutor for the Blues and Prog Rock weekend course.

Having completed another tour with Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, Dave K will offer his skills and experience for this unique Guitar Break event so book early to avoid disappointment. Sadly, the last two breaks that involved these three tutors meant some students were declined a place due to being fully subscribed. Book early so it doesn't happen to you!

During the weekend, there will be copious amounts of technique, theory and playing from tutors all rooted in real world applications. Of course, you've come to play too so there will be many chances for you to try out the new ideas in tutorial sessions and informal jam scenarios.

While there will be handouts given out, Guitar Break's policy of seeing what students want will make the day unique and well suited to dealing with your playing hurdles and aspirations!

Thanks again for your support of Dave!

Thank you for making Shore Thing acoustic in Bournemouth such a success!

Thanks to everyone who made their way down to Bournemouth's lovely Shore Acoustic cafe for two days of wonderful music and food at the South Coast of England. The weather stayed sunny most of the time and those who came down for a bit of a holiday found they could enjoy the music by night and the beauty of the beach by the day.

Dave and Murray played a mix of favorites during their four sets and even tried out a new tune or two! Some folks travel quite a bit just to get a chance to see the two strut their stuff :o))

Great News!
Dave Joins Wetton-Downes' iCon project for Third Studio Album and Tour!

We're pleased to announce that Dave will be reuniting with bass
player/vocalist extraordinaire John Wetton and incredible drummer Pete Riley for the new Wetton-Downes' iCon project. This will mark the first time Dave has worked with keyboard wizard Geoffrey Downes and Cellist Hugh McDowell, whose trademark sound characterised much of the Electric Light Orchestra's popular work.

Dave has played many times with John Wetton as part of the John Wetton Band, and also (along with Asia/ELP drummer Carl Palmer) in the highly acclaimed band Qango.

Dave has also toured extensively with Pete Riley; first with (Uriah Heep's) Ken Hensley, and then later as part of the Keith Emerson Band... Pete also
added his unique brand of rhythmic innovation on Dave's solo album 'Scarlet'... :O)

John Wetton and
Geoffrey Downes

Dave Kilminster
(guitar)
Pete Riley
(drummer)

John Wetton and Geoff Downes have just finished a highly successful global tour as part of the Reunion of the Original Members of Asia, and also produced a best selling album of all-new memorable classics, Phoenix as part of that band. John and Geoff's song writing formed much of the fabric of Asia's work; this album marks their third iCon studio project.

Dave has just returned from a two year world wide tour on guitar and lead vocals with Roger Waters' Dark Side of the Moon project, playing to millions of fans. He has also embarked on a partnership of acoustic guitar and vocals with singer Murray Hockridge, whose extraordinary voice spans more than three octaves. The blend of intricate guitar and soaring vocals is hailed by fans and critics alike.

This third iCon studio album will be recorded in fourth quarter 08, with a release and tour to follow in early 2009.

Dave surprises Mostly Autumn Fans with an unexpected Solo Set at the Brook

Dave recently surprised some Mostly Autumn Fans when he was the unanticipated opening act! Those who were at the gig were stunned and thrilled to see the guitarist many had just seen on stage with Roger Waters performing a solo set unannounced. Click to the Blog page to have Dave describe how it came to pass in his own words.

Dave Guest Instructor Nov Guitar Break!

Dave has long been a popular instructor at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guilford; he gets frequent requests for individual lessons.

Unfortunately, Dave's been touring and performing non-stop for the past two years and the schedule hasn't allowed for regular teaching. He hasn't been able to teach at the ACM during that time - his students miss him!

Last year, Dave took a quick break from performing and spent a weekend as a featured instructor for Guitar Break. The students who had the chance to experience his teaching and playing in this intimate setting were thrilled.

Dave is pleased to announce that he will be joining his friends at Guitar Break once again this year as a guest instructor on November 1st and 2nd in Northampton. Few details are available at this early date, but you can learn more at www.guitarbreak.com.

No details of the event have yet been posted but you can reserve your place by calling 0845 458 7372 or emailing mail@guitarbreak.com.

We'll be sure to keep you posted at www.davekilminster.com.

Dave and Murray Return to the Riva
this Sunday June 15th
!

Murray and Dave are Back at the Riva on Sunday June 15th for another afternoon in their "Chillout" series. The performance begins midday. You can find out more about how to get to the venue both on the Tour Dates page (click here) and at the bottom of this announcement.

Everyone Under the Sun
The Song  Everyone's Been Asking About

After Murray Hockridge and Dave's appearance on Sue Marchant's program, where they performed several songs live and the stunning reception they've received at their live performances, there have been more and more questions about the songs themselves and the writing and content.

One song which has sparked tremendous interest is Everyone under the Sun. You can hear it performed live if you come down to the Riva - we suggest you do, since the live performance is unparalleled and the experience can't be matched by a video or recording.

Knowing that, though, we still give you a "teaser" - a bit of background on the song, the lyrics, and a video of the players intertwining voice and guitar in a way that is entrancing their audiences.

Here is some commentary from Murray on Everyone under the Sun, which he characterizes as a "melodic rap on Andy Warhol's 1968 prediction, that in the future, everyone will be world famous for 15 minutes."

Now, Murray, points out, that realization is fast coming true with short attention span entertainment the norm and home spun entertainment like youtube and myspace dominating the net and mass communications along with "reality" television.

Murray continues, that Everyone under the sun is:

"A song co-written with my brother a few years back, it seems to have grown in relevance with each passing year. It's not an angry lyric, it's a a personal observation with a wry smile built in."

Here are the Lyrics, for those who've asked:

everyoneunderthesun
(Hockridge Brothers)

everyone under the sun is originality
whatever the cost in paradise lost in a wild wide world of wanna-be
sail on sail on silver liner someone might find ya
in position A, in the right way, "lets do it one more time yeh?"
say hello to your new friends over the rainbow
we want to see beneath the waves
the uv rays, the day to days
out your inner, saint your sinner, kiss your kin
the latest thing is dead, long live the latest thing

chorus:

so long superstar
easy go, now easy come
easy go, now easy come
15 minutes up
taste the fruit now pass it on
there's enough for everyone
everyoneunderthesun

put the cameras in the trees
see the new celebrities wash their wares on live tv
no longer wearing the brave face
you get the angles you want the most
the father's son and the overdose
the latest thing is dead, long live the latest thing

chorus...

game over player no 1
thought you knew everyone under the sun
player 2 just shot you
no one gets to keep high score for long
no bad, no good, no better, no best
could not maintain your critical mass
now you can rage in your cage in the zoo
being yourself: the thing that you do

chorus (x2)...

kingdom come thy will be done
shine the light see how we run
everyoneunderthesun

Remember to come down to the Riva on June 15th to hear Murray and Dave play live - the experience is entrancing and no video can do it justice!!

Thanks again for all your enthusiasm! It's been energising for all!

Welcome to the new look Dave Kilminster Website!

On a sad note, we bid a great big thank you and a very sad and fond farewell to Dave's longterm webmaster Faith Cowling, who becomes Dave's webmaster emerita on May 31st. Faith and her company, Rock 'n' Roll Embassy, were instrumental in bringing up Dave's website for the first time and she is responsible for all the designs and permutations for the first five years. Her design skills, insights, innovative ideas, and musical sensibility have helped www.davekilminster.com grow into a well-trafficked, well-designed and informative site and we hope to continue to expand and build on the solid groundwork that she so carefully has laid out. Please remember to checkout www.rocknrollembassy.com periodically. Faith continues to design websites for a variety of companies, music related and not, and she also runs a music school - if you are in the UK and interested in guitar lessons, she is someone you definitely want to know!

Moving forward, this site is designed by Roz Marchetti of Kahuna Graphics. If you own one of Dave's solo albums, Scarlet or Playing with Fire, you are already familiar with her work - her artwork graces both CDs as well as all of Dave's press materials and his myspace site. Pete Smith, Roz's colleague, takes over as webmaster of www.davekilminster.com; he has administered the Dave Kilminster myspace site since its inception.

Contact information for Roz and Pete both can be found on the Contact Us page :o)

We want to hear your feedback on this new site, but also ask your patience. This site is still under construction and over the next few weeks you will see new features, but also the archives of referenced material brought onto the new site. If you find that a link doesn't work and you don't see a note telling you that we know it, please tell us!

We also want to bring you up to speed on the latest
news from Dave.

Sunday, June 8th, you can hear Dave speak live with Holland radio personality Mark Deren on Radio Heemskerk at approximately 8.05 pm GMT (UK) / 3.05pm (US-EST). If you are in Holland, you can listen on 104.5 cable or 017.4 cable. For the rest of us, the best way to listen is via internet. Go to
www.radioheemskerk.nl
and doubleclick

on "internet radio" to listen in. Mark has
followed Dave's career for many years and has met up with him several times. Check out this photo of Dave and Mark from 2002. You can learn more about Mark at his website: www.markfromholland.com. To check out what time to listen where you are, go to www.timeanddate.com. The site easily converts GMT to any time zone in the world. We hope you can join us! It promises to be a lot of fun :o)))

Many thanks to those of you who have come down to the Riva to see Dave perform with Murray Hockridge - it is a unique and wonderful experience. The performance was the first of a series. The second takes place on June 1st and the series will continue throughout the summer - check out the Tour Dates page for an up to date list.

The BBC's legendary Sue Marchant welcomed Dave into her studio a second time this past week, this time with Murray, so many of you around the world got a chance to hear the two chat with Sue and sing. Great fun and we hope to have a podcast of the show for you soon. The feedback so far has been wonderful... the combination of voice and strings can't be matched and Sue makes her studio fun for performers and listeners alike.

Fans in St Petersburg Russia will have the chance to see the Roger Waters Band perform the last show of this leg of the Dark Side of the Moon Tour . It is great fun and we wish it could go on forever. Thanks for agreeing with us! ;o)))

So, once again...welcome! Please, take a look around, and tell us what you think! And if you haven't done so, sign up for the newsletter. We love to stay in touch!
